Merle Smith, 80, of Rockvale, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, in Murfreesboro.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Lincoln County. She was a homemaker and a retired bookkeeper for Crosslin Supply Company in Eagleville. She was a member of Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church. For 17 years Mrs. Smith was the pianist for the Stem Quartet, which performed throughout Tennessee, Alabama, and Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lloyd and Frances Josephine Sullivan Sowell.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Allen Smith of Rockvale; children, Linda Smith Adams and Rev. Eddie Smith, both of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joyce Merritt, Rev. Eddie Smith, and Rev. Christian Smith officiating. Burial followed in Rocky Glade Cemetery, near Eagleville.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
