BROOKS N DUNN TRIBUTE IN MAY

check this out from yahoo!!

Stars like George Strait, Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood surprised Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn with renditions of their favorite hits, relayed their fondest memories and even played practical jokes on the groundbreaking duo, who are counting down the days until their final performance together after two decades.
"Twenty years," Taylor Swift joked, "to me that's like a lifetime."
Swift surprised Dunn with a video that showed him doing an imitation of the 20-year-old sensation's trademark head shake.
"You had no idea how important that moment is because in 20 years that's the first time I've ever seen him mess his hair up," Brooks told Swift.
Faith Hill remembered the group as country's biggest practical jokers, telling a story from an early 1990s tour on which she opened for the duo. She turned in late one night in her hotel room and got an unwelcome surprise.
"I pulled back my covers, tucked myself in bed and there it was: a slimy eel thawing out in my sheets," Hill said.
She sang a poignant rendition of "The Long Goodbye," then left the stage. A moment later two waiters appeared with takeout boxes for the duo, who sat on stage during the taping.
"Oh, it's eel from Faith," Brooks said before popping a piece in his mouth.
Dunn quipped: "I'll save mine."
The fun will soon be ending for Brooks & Dunn, who are touring through the summer and will play their final concert on Aug. 10 in Nashville, Tenn.
Brad Paisley told the story of how they were solo artists until Tim DuBois at Arista Nashville came up with the idea to put them together, and told them to go write a song and see what happens. Brooks later said they came up with "Brand New Man" and "My Next Broken Heart," a song played by Paisley, on consecutive days, and the partnership was sealed.
"Tim introduced us over an enchilada on a Tuesday morning," Brooks told the crowd. "He said, 'I don't need a boy singer, I've got Alan Jackson.'"
Brooks & Dunn released their first record, "Brand New Man," in 1991 and went on to become country music's top-selling duo with more than 30 million albums sold and 23 No. 1 hits. They also served as role models and springboards for dozens of acts who followed, taking new singers and groups on tour with them.
Each of the 16 performing acts got to choose a meaningful tune to play during the show, which will air May 23 on CBS. Strait received a standing ovation before playing "Boot Scootin' Boogie."
"People ask me all the time who I listen to, and I answer with three simple words: 'Brooks and Dunn,'" Strait said.
The night was filled with great performances. Lady Antebellum singers Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley coaxed Dunn and Reba McEntire on stage for "If You See Him/If You See He." Chesney got them to sing along on "You're Going to Miss Me When I'm Gone." Miranda Lambert chose "Hillbilly Deluxe," she said, "because it rocks." And Underwood sang "Neon Moon" the night after making history with her second entertainer of the year win at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
The night's most poignant moment came after poet Maya Angelou hailed them in a video address.
"In their whole body of work, they've shown how much they care about the human condition," she said.
Singer Jennifer Hudson then performed a show-stopping version of "Believe," reducing Hill and other members of the audience to tears.
"Girl, have you heard you?" Brooks asked the singer.
Longtime friend McEntire wowed the duo with "Indian Summer" and Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush of Sugarland said they chose "Red Dirt Road" because they write their own material and wanted to pick a song that Brooks & Dunn penned themselves.
Bush told the story of how Dunn started the song on a cocktail napkin and handed it to Brooks to finish.
The duo was honored with the ACM Milestone Award before capping the evening off with an all-star jam of "Play Something Country."
Brooks thanked the many people responsible for their success but also kept the crowd laughing.
"People say this is like a marriage breaking up, and, no, it's not," he joked. "There's things involved in a marriage that are not involved in Ronnie's and my relationship."
Dunn reminded the crowd that though the duo is ending its run, the music will continue.
"I'm going to buy a secondhand van and get a rusty old horse trailer, throw me some band equipment in it, and go find me a beer joint and keep singing," he said.

PLATINUM PROFILE ARTIST: DEANA CARTER

DEANA CARTER WENT PLATINUM 5X WITH DID I SHAVE MY LEGS FOR THIS.

Deana Kay Carter (born January 4, 1966 in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.) is an American country music artist who broke through in 1996 with the release of debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This?, which was certified 5× Multi-Platinum in the United States for sales of over five million. It was followed by 1998's Everything's Gonna Be Alright, 2003's I'm Just a Girl, 2005's The Story of My Life, and 2007's The Chain. Overall, Carter's albums have accounted for fourteen singles, including three which reached Number One on the Billboard country charts: "Strawberry Wine", "We Danced Anyway", and "How Do I Get There".

She is the daughter of singer Fred Carter, Jr. Despite her famous father, she did not have a smooth path to a recording deal. After an initial lack of success at age seventeen, she entered the University of Tennessee, majoring in Rehabilitation Therapy and becoming a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and a Sigma Alpha Epsilon Little Sister. During college, she sang at various campus locations, performing for the enjoyment of singing, rather than with the intent of pursuing a musical career. After she graduated, she worked with recovering stroke and head injury patients. Although she found the work rewarding and worthwhile, she eventually realized that her first love was music, and decided to pursue the music career she left earlier.
Carter dated music video director Chris Hicky and had a son during their relationship; Gray Hayes Hicky was born in September 2004.[1] On October 3, 2009, Carter married boyfriend Brandon Malone in Malibu.[2]
Carter has been a national spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation; her father is a kidney transplant recipient. Carter also was the author of a book, Songs From the Heart.

Her first big break came when one of her demo tapes caught the attention of Willie Nelson, who invited her to take part in the 1994 Farm Aid VII concert as the show's only female soloist. That same tape led to a contract with Capitol Records that year.
In early 1995 she released her debut album, Did I Shave My Legs for This?, in the U.K. on Patriot Records. However, the label folded shortly after the album's release. In 1996, Carter released her debut country single, "Strawberry Wine," which reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks. Did I Shave My Legs for This? was released in North America (keeping only three of the original tracks) to great success. The album debuted at #2 on the U.S. Top Country Albums chart and sold well over five million copies, and produced two further No. 1 hits in "We Danced Anyway" and "How Do I Get There."
Carter was featured on the soundtrack to the 1997 animated movie Anastasia, for her version of "Once Upon a December." The track was made into a music video and received rotation on CMT at the time "How Do I Get There" was charting as a radio single (since the single had no music video).

In September 1998, Carter released her sixth single, "Absence of the Heart," as the lead-off single to her second album, Everything's Gonna Be Alright, which was released on October 20, 1998. The album peaked at #6 and sold just enough to receive a Gold certification, far less than the sales of her debut album. The album produced a Top 20 in its lead single and three further singles, two of which were minor Top 40 hits ("You Still Shake Me" and "Angels Working Overtime").
After her second album failed to follow up on the success of her debut, she attempted for several years to get new material out. But after dealing with a total of four label presidents and a failed attempt to push out a third album in 2001, she chose to end her relationship with Capitol Records over differences on creative direction

After releasing her third studio album, Father Christmas, on Rounder Records in November 2001, and a divorce from husband Chris DiCroce, she relocated to Los Angeles.
In 2002, Carter signed with Arista Nashville and released her first single in three years. "There's No Limit," which became her sixth Top 20 hit with a peak of #14 in early 2003, served as the lead-off single to her fourth studio album, I'm Just a Girl, which was released on March 18, 2003. The title-track was released as the album's second single, and was a minor Top 40 hit. No further singles were released from the album, and Carter once again parted ways with her record label.

In 2004, Carter signed with independent record label Vanguard Records. She released the song "(Bleep) Texas" in March 2005, but it failed to chart and was shortly replaced with "One Day at a Time," which served as the lead single to her fifth studio album, The Story of My Life. It only remained on the chart for five weeks and peaked at #55. The Story of My Life peaked at #26 on the U.S. Country Albums chart, and all further singles ("The Girl You Left Me For," "Sunny Day," and "In a Heartbeat") failed to chart. Despite having less success, Carter had more artistic freedom with this album and was able to write (or co-write) and produce all 11 tracks.
Live in Concert, Carter's first live album, was released in early 2007 through Big Band Concert Series. The album includes one previously-unreleased song, "Angels of the Heart," as well as other concert favorites. Although released in 2007, all of the live performances on the album were recorded in 1998.
Carter's sixth studio album, The Chain, was released on October 9, 2007. The Chain was a cover album, that she recorded as a tribute to her father (whom performed guitar on many of the original versions of the covers found on the album). Many of the tracks also featured the original artists as duet partners, such as Dolly Parton (on "Love Is Like a Butterfly") and Willie Nelson (on "On the Road Again"). The album was unsuccessful; it debuted and peaked at #60, and its only single (the duet version of "On the Road Again" with Nelson) failed to chart.
Carter was ranked #81 on the 100 Greatest Women (of Country Music) by Country Universe in 2008

After releasing The Chain, Carter took some time off from recording music to spend at home with her son.
In an interview with Jay Cooper of Slither Productions, Carter reported that she had been writing music for her next album, with hopes of releasing the record sometime in 2010.[6] It was announced in March 2010 that Deana Carter had signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Nashville/Chappel Music.

PLATINUM PRFILE: CONWAY TWITTY

Conway Twitty was born Harold Jenkins on September 1, 1933 in Friars Point, Mississippi. He was named by his great uncle after his favorite silent movie actor, Harold Lloyd. The Jenkins family moved to Helena, Arkansas when Jenkins was 10 years of age, and it was in Helena that he put together his first singing group, the Phillips County Ramblers.[citation needed]
Two years later, he had his own local radio show every Saturday morning. Jenkins also practiced his second passion, baseball. He received an offer to play with the Philadelphia Phillies after high school, but he was drafted into the US Army. He served in the Far East and organized a group called The Cimmerons to entertain fellow GIs.[1]
After his military discharge, Jenkins again pursued a music career. After hearing Elvis Presley's song, "Mystery Train", he began writing rock and roll material. He headed for the Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee and worked with Sam Phillips, owner and founder of Sun Studios, to get the "right" sound.

Accounts of how Jenkins acquired his stage name vary. As one account would have it, Jenkins felt that his real name wasn't marketable, and he changed his show business name in 1957. Looking at a road map, he spotted Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas. Thus, he went with the professional name of Conway Twitty.[citation needed]
Alternatively, Jenkins met a Richmond, Virginia, man named W. Conway Twitty Jr. through Jenkins' manager in a New York City restaurant. The manager served in the US Army with the real Conway Twitty. Later, the manager suggested to Jenkins that he take the name as his stage name because it had a ring to it. W. Conway Twitty subsequently recorded the song, "What's in A Name But Trouble" in the mid-1960s, lamenting the loss of his name to Jenkins.
There were also rumors he had lovers in Conway, Arkansas, as well as Twitty, Texas and his stage name was a constant reminder of their love. Whatever the truth of the matter, Harold Jenkins retained his legal name.

Twitty's fortunes changed in 1958, while he was with MGM Records. An Ohio radio station did not play "I'll Try", an MGM single that went nowhere in terms of sales, radio play, and jukebox play; instead playing the B side, "It's Only Make Believe", a song written between sets by Twitty and drummer Jack Nance when they were in Hamilton, Ontario playing at the Flamingo Lounge.[2] The record took nearly one year to reach and stay at the top spot on the Billboard pop music charts in the U.S., as well as No. 1 in 21 other countries. It became the first of nine Top 40 hits for Twitty. That same year, country singer Tabby West of ABC-TV's Ozark Jubilee heard Twitty and he was booked to appear on the show.[3]
For a brief period, some believed he was Elvis Presley recording under a different name. This was largely the case with "It's Only Make Believe". Twitty would go on to enjoy rock and roll success with songs including "Danny Boy" (pop No. 10) and "Lonely Blue Boy" (pop No. 6). "Lonely Blue Boy", originally titled "Danny", was recorded by Presley for the film King Creole but was not used in the soundtrack.[citation needed]
In 1960, he appeared in two feature films, College Confidential and Platinum High School.

Twitty always wanted to record country music and—beginning in 1965—he did just that. His first few country albums were met with some country DJs refusing to play them because he was known as a rock-n-roll singer. However, he finally broke free with his first top five country hit, "The Image Of Me", in July 1968, ensued by his first number one country song, "Next In Line", in November 1968. Few of his singles beginning in 1968 ranked below the top 5.
In 1970, Twitty recorded and released his biggest hit ever, "Hello Darlin'" (which spent four weeks at the top of the country chart). In 1971 he released his first hit duet with Loretta Lynn, "After the Fire Is Gone". It was a success, and many more followed, including "Lead Me On" (1971), "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" (1973), "As Soon As I Hang Up the Phone" (1974), "Feelins'" (1975), "I Still Believe In Waltzes", "I Can't Love You Enough" and many others. Together, Twitty and Loretta (as they were known in their act), won four consecutive Country Music Association awards for vocal duo (1972-75) and a host of other duo and duet awards from other organizations throughout the 1970s.
In 1973, Twitty released "You've Never Been This Far Before", which was not only No. 1 in country for three weeks that September but also reached No. 22 on the pop charts. Some disc jockeys refused to play the song because of its suggestive lyrics.
In 1978 he issued the single "The Grandest Lady Of Them All" honoring the Grand Ole Opry, but for the first time since 1967, a single of his failed to reach top-10 status as some radio stations refused to play a song honoring the property of a competitor (broadcast by WSM-AM). Nevertheless, the single reached the top 20 but it peaked well below expectations, and this set in motion the changes that were to take place in his career, including a new hairstyle, changing from the slick-back pompadour style to the curlier style he would keep the rest of his life.
In 1985, going by all weekly music trade charts, the song "Don't Call Him a Cowboy" became the 50th single of his career to achieve a No. 1 ranking. He would have five more through 1990, giving him a total of 55 number 1 hits. George Strait eclipsed the feat of 50 number 1 hits in 2002 with his single "She'll Leave You With a Smile" and then reached No. 1 for the 56th time in 2007 with the single "Wrapped".
Throughout much of his country music career his home was Decca Records, later re-named MCA. He signed with the label in late 1965 but left in 1981 when it appeared Decca was marketing and promoting newer acts, plus management at the label had changed and other factors brought on the decision. He joined Elektra/Asylum in 1982. That label merged with its parent company, Warner Bros. Records in 1983. He stayed on with Warner Bros. Records through early 1987 but then went back to MCA to finish out his career. In 1993, shortly before he died, he recorded a new album, Final Touches.

Twitty lived for many years in Hendersonville, Tennessee, just north of Nashville, where he built a country music entertainment complex called Twitty City. The address was 1 Country Music Blvd. Its lavish displays of Christmas lights were a famous local sight. Conway Twitty and Twitty City were once featured on the TV series Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. A popular tourist stop throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s, it was shut down in 1994 following a year-long tribute show called Final Touches, when fans and peers in the music business dropped by. The complex was auctioned off and bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network for its religious programs.

Twitty became ill while performing in Branson, Missouri, and was in pain while he was on the tour bus. He died in Springfield, Missouri, at Cox South Hospital from an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
Since his death, his son Michael and grandson Tre have been carrying on the legacy of Twitty's music. His most recent chart appearance on the country charts was a duet with Anita Cochran, "I Want to Hear A Cheating Song" (2004). Twitty's voice was electronically recreated based on one of his hits from the 1980s.

crystal

Twitty's success in country music was a key factor in his winning a 1983 case, Harold L. Jenkins (a/k/a Howard Twitty) v. Commissioner in United States Tax Court. The Internal Revenue Service denied Twitty's attempt to deduct from his taxes, as an "ordinary and necessary" business expense payments he had made in order to repay investors in a defunct fast-food chain called Twitty Burger. The chain went under in 1971. The general rule is that the payment of someone else's debts is not deductible. Twitty alleged that his primary motive was "protecting his personal business reputation." The court opinion contained testimony from Twitty about his bond with country music fans.

Twitty married three times. After his death, his widow, Dee Henry Jenkins, and his four grown children from the previous marriages, Michael, Joni, Kathy and Jimmy Jenkins engaged in a public dispute over the estate. His will had not been updated to account for the third marriage, but Tennessee law reserves one third of any estate to the widow. After years of probate, their father's final wishes finally saw the light in the courtroom when the four children received the rights to his music, name and image. The rest of the estate went to a public auction and much of the property and memorabilia was held because the widow refused to accept the appraised value so therefore she demanded that everything be sold so she could get a higher amount.
In 2008, controversy again erupted in his family when the four remaining children sued Sony/ATV Music Publishing over an agreement that Twitty and his family signed in 1990. The suit alleges that the terms of the agreement were not fully understood by the children, although they were all adults at the time. It seeks to recover copyrights and royalty revenue that the document assigned to the company.

While Twitty was known to cover songs—most notably "Slow Hand" which was a major pop hit for the Pointer Sisters, "The Rose" which was a major pop hit for Bette Midler, and "Heartache Tonight" which was a major pop hit for The Eagles. Twitty's songs have also been convered numerous times, including four notable covers, George Jones' rendition of "Hello Darlin", Blake Shelton's "Goodbye Time", The Misfits version of "It's Only Make Believe" and Elvis Presley's version of "There's a Honky Tonk Angel (Who'll Take Me Back In)". In addition, Kenny Chesney's version of "I'd Love to Lay You Down" was sung and received some success, mostly in the concert realm.
Some artists have had hits with songs that Twitty recorded but never released as singles. Among these are: Steve Wariner's "I'm Already Taken" from Twitty's 1981 album Mr. T, Lee Greenwood's "It Turns Me Inside Out" from Twittty's 1982 album Southern Comfort, John Conlee's "In My Eyes" from Twitty's 1982 album Dream Maker, John Schneider's "What's a Memory Like You (Doin' in a Love Like This?)" from Twitty's 1985 album Chasin' Rainbows, and Daryle Singletary's "The Note" and Ricky Van Shelton's "Somebody Lied" from Twitty's 1985 album Don't Call Him a Cowboy. These are just a few examples showing Twitty's knack for choosing hit songs, whether or not they were destined to be his own.

Live action footage of Twitty has been featured many times as a running gag on the Fox-TV animated series Family Guy. In the show a character turns to the camera and says "Ladies and gentlemen...Mr. Conway Twitty," followed by a moment of actual footage one of his many television performances. When this same joke was used in the episode The Juice Is Loose the entirely of Twitty performing "I See The Want To In Your Eyes" was shown.
The fictional character "Conrad Birdie" in the musical "Bye Bye Birdie" is said to be a composite of Conway Twitty and Elvis Presley.

A CHEESECAKE RECIPE

Mini Sicilian Cheesecakes
Ingredients:
2 large eggs
3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3/4 pound ricotta cheese
Grated peel of 1 lemon
1-1/2 teaspoons flour
Cooking spray
1/4 cup pine nuts, toasted
Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°. Using an electric mixer, beat the eggs and vanilla on high speed until pale yellow and fluffy, about 7 minutes. Slowly beat in the granulated sugar. On low speed, mix in the ricotta, lemon peel and flour.
Line a muffin pan with 12 foil baking liners and lightly spray with cooking spray. Pour the cheese mixture into the foil liners. Place the muffin pan on a rimmed baking sheet, transfer to the oven and pour about 1 1/2 cups water onto the baking sheet to make a water bath. Bake until the cheesecake centers are just set, about 20 minutes. Remove the muffin pan from the baking sheet, then top the cheesecakes with the pine nuts, patting gently to adhere. Let cool for about 30 minutes, then dust with confectioners' sugar.

A MOTHER'S DAY CHEESECAKE

Creamy Lemon Cheesecake
Ingredients:
1 cup whole almonds (about 4 ounces)
1 1/4 cups plus 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
2 pounds cream cheese, at room temperature
4 large eggs plus 2 large egg yolks, at room temperature
1/4 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Boiling water, for baking
Fresh raspberries, for garnish
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375°. Using a food processor, pulse the almonds and 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar until finely chopped. Add the butter and pulse until combined. Press the nut mixture evenly into a 9-inch springform pan. Bake until browned, 10 to 15 minutes. Let cool. Place the pan on a long piece of foil; fold the foil up the sides of the pan. Set in a large baking dish or roasting pan.
Lower the oven to 325°. Using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese at low speed until fluffy, about 1 minute. Scrape the sides of the bowl, then gradually beat in the remaining 1 1/4 cups sugar until smooth and creamy, 1 to 2 minutes; scrape down the bowl. Beat in the eggs and egg yolks 1 at a time, scraping down the bowl each time. Beat in the sour cream, lemon peel and vanilla.
Pour the filling into the crust. Transfer to the oven and pour enough boiling water into the baking dish to reach halfway up the sides of the springform pan. Bake until the edges are set and the center jiggles slightly, about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Turn off the oven, prop the door open slightly and let the cake cool in the oven for 1 hour.
Remove the cake from the water bath; discard the foil. Let the cake cool completely, then cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours. Top with fresh raspberries.
